New York State Middle School Directors and Officers NYSMSA began in New York State in 1980 serving the needs of adults working with middle-level youth. NYSMSA supports teachers, administrators, parents and others in an effort to provide services to youth between the ages of ten and fifteen. Prior to being the principal, he served as the Assistant Principal at QMS, the Technology Director/Educational Technologist at the Queensbury Union Free School District. He was a Social Studies teacher and department chair at QMS prior to that. Doug has a C.A.S. and M.S.T. from SUNY Plattsburgh, and a B.A. in history from SUNY Albany.

Jim McIntyre is a former 6th grade teacher and director of the Pine Bush Odyssey of the Mind program. He still coaches the girls varsity tennis team and the boys golf team at Pine Bush. Serving as a consultant around the state, Jim has been recognized for his work in helping to create NYSMSA's middle level academy program. He was also a recipient of the NYSMSA Ross M. Burkhardt Middle Level Educator Award, and a recipient of the Mataraza Middle Level Teacher of the Year Award. He has presented at a wide variety of conferences, workshops and NYSMSA middle level academies from Buffalo to Westchester. Most often he features his work in teaming and adolescent instructional strategies in his presentations. Jim’s loves helping teachers discover ways to inject interaction, movement and creativity into lessons that make learning real, vital and fun. Beyond the realm of education you will find Jim either hiking, skiing, fishing or enjoying time with his family.

Emily received both her BA and MA from St. John's University in English. She went on to study Secondary English Education at The City College of New York. She has been teaching at Bronx Green Middle School -- both Social Studies and Literacy. Currently, she is the 8th grade team leader, Social Studies Chair, Unit Design Specialist at Bronx Green Middle School. Emily participated in an iPad integration program at Bronx Green that was featured with the Tokyo Broadcasting System and is currently piloting a digital classroom. She is experienced with curriculum design and writing, particularly with the Common Core.

Monica Kwiatkowski has been an eighth grade Social Studies Teacher at Cuba-Rushford Middle School for the past 9 years. She has been serving as an alternate to the NYSMSA board since 2003. A native of Buffalo, Monica recieved her Bachelors degree in History from D'Youville College and earned her Masters in Middle Level Education from Walden University. She loves interdisciplinary teaching working with her highly motivative team and annually directs the Middle-High School Musical as her outlet for her creative energy.

Jamie is the principal of A. A. Kingston Middle School in Potsdam which was recognized in 2009 as an Essential Elements: School to Watch. His math and science teaching career spanned the middle and high school levels. Before his current position, he also served the Potsdam CSD as a coach, athletic director, and dean of students. A native of the North Country, he obtained his BA from SUNY Potsdam, completing a middle-level program sponsored by the National Science Foundation. He then completed his MS from SUNY Potsdam and a MA in Educational Leadership from St. Lawrence University.
